Brentford have reached an agreement to sign Reiss Nelson on loan for the duration of the season, with the winger turning down other offers.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Reiss Nelson is on his way out of Arsenal and will join Brentford on a season-long loan deal. There is no clarity whether the deal comes with a purchase option or obligation for the future, as the winger has seemingly rejected overtures from other teams, including Fulham, to make a move across London.
Brentford have pulled up a surprise deal to sign Reiss Nelson on a season-long loan agreement., The Bees were busy since the start of the day as they are finalising Yoane Wissa’s sale to Newcastle United, and now they have found a solution to bolster their attack with the 25-year-old Arsenal homegrown player.
Arsenal were keen to offload Nelson since the start of the window, and had earlier hoped to sell him permanently. There were active talks with Fulham, who were open to another loan, with reports stating an obligation condition might have been on the cards based on appearances.
There were some concerns from Fulham’s perspective over signing the winger, as they went about reassessing their interest in Nelson. Eventually, they tied up a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Kevin as a viable left-wing option, and that may have been a factor in the West London outfit cooling their interest in the 25-year-old Arsenal homegrown player.
As per James Benge of CBS, Besiktas approached Nelson and even stated their willingness to offer him a salary package better than what he was currently drawing at Arsenal. Benge also insisted Fulham were still in the mix, but it appears Brentford have been decisive in their interest to tie up a deal for the English winger.
Brentford move idea for Reiss Nelson
Sometimes, London-based players often prefer to stay in the city rather than move to another location, and that might have been the case with Nelson. Crystal Palace were keen earlier, but that was no more than minimal interest, and Brentford are now the concrete destination for the 25-year-old Arsenal homegrown player.
Reiss Nelson also rejected multiple other clubs to choose Brentford, and now he will have his medicals as well as complete other formalities to complete the move to the Bees. His Arsenal deal expires in 2027, and while the Gunners would have preferred to sell him permanently, they will be content with taking his heavy wages off their books for the time being.
