As we await the international break, the Premier League will enter a brief hiatus before returning on September 13.
The FPL previous gameweek has been a turbulent one for FPL players – with top stars suffering injuries and dark horses racking up points, let’s see who the winners and losers were this week.
Goalkeepers
After two dismal outings, Liverpool’s Alisson finally repaid the faith that his FPL owners put in him this week. He didn’t have too much to do against Arsenal, but nevertheless kept a clean sheet and picked up two bonus points along the way.
Sunderland’s Robin Roefs also deserves a mention – he saved a penalty en route to the Black Cats’ win over Brentford on Saturday.
Between the sticks, there is only one pick for ‘flop of the week’ – Aston Villa’s Marco Bizot had an absolute nightmare against Crystal Palace. The Eagles had four shots on target against Villa – Bizot only saved one of them, resulting in a points tally of zero for this week.
Defenders
Marc Guehi is a man in the headlines. A move to Liverpool may be on the horizon – but nevertheless, his 15 point tally makes him the highest scoring FPL defender in gameweek 3.
Not only did the England international keep a clean sheet, he also scored an excellent volleyed goal along the way.
Elsewhere, there were plenty of other expensive defenders who failed to deliver this weekend. Ruben Dias, John Stones, Murillo, Nikola Milenkovic and Rayan Ait-Nouri all could not justify their FPL price tags.
Midfielders
Leading the pack in midfield was Dominik Szoboszlai – despite playing the full game at right-back for Liverpool on Sunday. He put in an excellent defensive display against Arsenal and scored the only goal of the game, netting him the maximum bonus points.
There were no outstandingly bad midfield performers this weekend, but if we had to pick one, it would be Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson. He mustered just one point against Bournemouth – those who have paid his price tag of £7.1 would have expected more from the Welsh international.
Forwards
Topping the strikers’ leaderboard was a three way tie between Erling Haaland, Jarrod Bowen and Joao Pedro – of these three, Joao Pedro and Jarrod Bowen represent the best value for money. They each scored 9 points, but Haaland will cost you £14.1, while Joao Pedro and Bowen are £7.7 and £7.8 respectively.
It was another stinker of a gameweek for Ollie Watkins, as his value continues to plummet. He has failed to notch up a goal or an assist in three games now – if he’s still in your team, it’s probably time to move on. At £8.9, such a gamble simply isn’t worth it.
