Arsenal have sold midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga to Hamburg for £10 million, according to The Sun.
The Gunners have spent over £260m on incomings this summer. The onus is now on recouping some funds before today’s 7pm transfer deadline.
Earlier today, Arsenal formally confirmed the departure of Lokonga on a permanent transfer, thereby bringing to a close his four-year stay at the club.
The Sun have now revealed that the Gunners agreed a £10m deal to part ways with the 25-year-old.
Fabio Vieira is expected to join Lokonga at the Bundesliga outfit. The Portuguese will join the club on loan with a £20m buy option at the end of the season.
Hamburg have been promoted back to the German top-flight after an extended seven-year absence, and they will no doubt be keen to avoid relegation.
Lokonga and Vieira have the opportunity to prove their credentials. A mid-table finish with good individual performances would boost their reputations.
The former has had some standout performances on loan over the past few years, but his main concern has been the inability to stay injury-free for extended periods.
If he can stay unscathed, he could have a good career at Hamburg and potentially at a higher level.
Vieira has fallen out of favour at Arsenal amid competition and injuries. He had a decent loan stint at Porto last season, registering five goals and six assists.
If he can produce such performances in the Bundesliga, Hamburg could be persuaded to trigger the option to purchase him at the end of the campaign.
Like Vieira, Reiss Nelson is set to join Brentford on loan with a buy option. The Arsenal graduate has the chance to redeem himself and clinch a permanent deal.
Meanwhile, Jakub Kiwior is expected to sign for Porto on loan with an obligation to buy. The deal will go through once the Gunners confirm Piero Hincapie’s arrival.
