Oleksandr Zinchenko could remain at Arsenal beyond the transfer deadline after Marseille failed to agree on the terms presented.
According to Sky Sports, Oleksandr Zinchenko could stay at Arsenal beyond the closure of the transfer window. The left-back is not seen as a key part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for the season ahead, with the Gunners now in real danger of losing him for nothing next year.
Arsenal have had a fantastic transfer window, and many have suggested they have had the best among all teams this summer. There is an argument that Liverpool, after signing Alexander Isak, may have had a slightly more impactful window, but Arsenal’s is right up there with the best.
While they have received ample praise for the incoming business, the Gunners have once again lacked in their sales. The North Londoners have barely brought any significant funds form player sales, and now they are in danger of keeping a high-earner in the final year of his deal.
Arsenal were ready to entertain bids for Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer, but so far, they have not found a clear-cut solution to the left-back. Signed in a £30 million deal from Manchester City back in 2022, the Ukrainian utility had an instant impact. However, his constant injury issues and the team’s evolution in style under Mikel Arteta have rendered the left-back somewhat out of their plans.
Real Betis were keen on the left-back earlier, but the finances involved in any potential deal made their presence irrelevant. Marseille had been in concrete talks in the last few days, and it appears those conversations have ended, as the Ligue 1 giants have since signed Emerson Palmeiri from West Ham United.
Oleksandr Zinchenko set to stay at Arsenal
Zinchenko’s wages are seen as the biggest stumbling block for interested clubs, and might be the primary reason for Marseille to cool their interest. For Arsenal, it represents another problem, as they had planned to cut their wage bill with the departure of the £30 million utility man.
However, there is still a glimmer of hope for the club to sell Zinchenko, especially if there is interest from a Turkish side, where the window shuts only on September 11. Fenerbahce were linked earlier, and it remains to be seen whether the club comes in with a late offer or some other team from that league. For now, Zinchenko is primed to stay at Arsenal and probably leave for nothing next year.
