The Minnesota Vikings have an underrated tight end.

T.J. Hockenson doesn’t usually get the credit he deserves, but he’s a consistent and reliable pass catcher.

That’s why he recently made a bold statement about his abilities.

“I’m one of the top route-running tight ends in the league. I pride myself on creating separation, and you look at it and that’s what I do on Sundays,” Hockenson said.

Truth be told, he does have the numbers to back it up.

Hockenson sustained a torn ACL and MCL injury that limited him to 10 games last season.

He’s now back to full strength and looking to take another leap in J.J. McCarthy’s first year as Minnesota’s starting quarterback.

Hockenson made 41 receptions for 455 yards and no touchdowns with Sam Darnold last season.

In 2023, he had 95 receptions for 960 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games before that season-ending knee injury.

Hockenson has been a productive player regardless of his quarterback situation.

He looked sharp with Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff for the Detroit Lions, and with Kirk Cousins in Minnesota.

The Vikings will need him early on in the season as wide receiver Jordan Addison serves a three-game NFL suspension.

Having a proven veteran like Hockenson will make things easier for McCarthy in his first regular-season action.

Even though Hockenson wants to be known for his route running, it’s worth noting that he’s also a fearless blocker who won’t hesitate to put his body on the line to help the team.
