Alvin Kamara is not happy with Saints’ surprising roster move

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was not happy with the unexpected roster move the team made on Monday.

The Saints made the decision to release special teams veteran JT Gray on Monday, which came as a major surprise. Gray has been named an All-Pro three times due to his special teams prowess, and had been with the Saints since 2018.

Saints coach Kellen Moore cited a need for roster flexibility in addressing the release, but added that cutting Gray was “one of the hardest things” he has had to do since taking over as head coach.

At least one Saints player was not on board with the rationale. Kamara sent a post on X Monday afternoon that appeared to be in response to the decision. It read simply: “Wtf.”

The preseason release of a special teams player is unlikely to have a huge impact on the Saints’ season. However, it has clearly left something of a negative impression on at least one key figure in the locker room.

On the other hand, the Saints have not posted double-digit wins since 2020, so it is not as if they are messing with a tested winning formula. Indeed, after how their offseason went, the team might be in for a rough ride with or without Gray.

Gray was a second-team All-Pro selection as recently as last season. Up until Monday, he had spent his entire career with the Saints. Given his special teams prowess, he likely will not have much trouble finding a new landing spot.
