The Jacksonville Jaguars are banking on Trevor Lawrence to bounce back in 2025. Based on how things have unfolded, there's a reason to believe that he will. That said, an NFL analyst isn't so sure he'll pull it off. In fact, he believes a rival AFC South quarterback will outplay him.
Just recently, John Breech of CBS Sports came up with a list of bold predictions for every NFL team and thinks Daniel Jones will play better than Trevor Lawrence in 2025. Below's the skinny.
"Trevor Lawrence is now going into the second year of a five-year, $275 million extension that he signed back in June 2024. At $55 million per year, Lawrence is tied with Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Jordan Love as the second-highest paid QB in the league," Breech wrote. "If new coach Liam Coen can't turn him into a successful quarterback, the Jaguars are going to be in trouble."
Breech continued, "On the other hand, you have Daniel Jones, who flamed out in New York and is now trying to save his career in Indy. If Jones wins more games with the Colts than Lawrence does with the Jaguars, that's quite the indictment on the former No. 1 overall pick. This feels like a make-or-break season for Lawrence, who is just 2-13 in his past 15 starts."
That's right, the same Daniel Jones that got cut by the New York Giants and is on his third team in two years? He's projected to be better than Trevor Lawrence in 2025.

How did Daniel Jones get here?
A first-round pick in 2019, Daniel Jones got a multi-year extension in 2023. That year, the New York Giants made the playoffs, so the decision seemed justified at the time. Why not lock up your quarterback for the foreseeable future and give yourself a chance to compete on a yearly basis?
Jones proved the G-Men wrong just one year later, as he played so badly that he got benched in favor of undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito. New York realized its mistake and cut bait with the former Duke product. He quickly latched onto the Minnesota Vikings, where he spent the rest of the 2024 season.
Needing someone to turn the heat on Anthony Richardson, the Indianapolis Colts signed Daniel Jones in free agency. And while it's true that the former Giants quarterback showed progress, he didn't go against top competition, so you cannot truly say that he will bounce back or that he'll once again live up to his draft billing.
Why the Jaguars have the better quarterback in Trevor Lawrence
There's no doubt that Trevor Lawrence hasn't played nearly as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars expected the past two years. But to suggest Daniel Jones will be the better quarterback of the two is preposterous.
Lawrence dealt with injuries the past two years and wasn't surrounded by the best possible team. If that wasn't enough, he didn't get much help from the coaching staff. To remedy the issue, the Jags hired Liam Coen and bolstered No. 16's supporting cast. When you add it all up, nobody will bat an eye if he reclaims his spot as a top-10 quarterback in the NFL.
Meanwhile, Daniel Jones has done little to make you think he can be a top-echelon quarterback. Sure, you could argue that his numbers have been better than Lawrence's, but the truth is that they're missing context.
According to traditional statistics, Jones has been the better of the two, but those numbers are laid out without context. They don't take into account that Lawrence has had terrible coaching outside of 2022, and that he's had to put his team on his shoulders to give Jacksonville a shot at winning.
Meanwhile, Jones was carried by running back Saquon Barkley and hardly ever lifted his team. Simply, it's hard to picture him playing better than his Jaguars counterpart in 2025.
The bottom line is that suggesting that Daniel Jones will be better than Trevor Lawrence is indeed bold, maybe even bonkers. Perhaps if John Breech had given more arguments for his prediction, it would have made sense, but he didn't.
