New England Patriots RB Rhamondre Steveson
The New England Patriots extended former fourth-round running back Rhamondre Stevenson to a four-year, $36 million contract, which will keep the former Oklahoma Sooner in Foxborough through the 2028 season.
While having high hopes for the running back, he hasn’t been able to hit the mark for New England.
With less than a week until the opening kickoff of the 2025-26 season, Stevenson has been named to the Bleacher Report’s All-Overpaid team.
“While this contract won’t cripple the Patriots’ cap, it was surprising they paid so much for a fourth-round pick who’s been unspectacular through three seasons. Little has changed since,” Brad Gagnon wrote for B/R.
“Stevenson has 23 total touchdowns in four years. He’s never rushed for more than 1,040 yards and has just one 1,000-yard season from scrimmage under his belt. He averaged a career-low 3.9 yards per carry in 2024, and was at one point demoted for fumbling issues.”
Rhamondre has had a fumble issue since he first entered the league and has gotten worse at keeping the ball. Rhamondre lost the ball 7 times last season, while only losing the ball 7 times in the first three seasons of his career.
Stevenson ran for 801 yards and 7 touchdowns under former offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt on a Patriots team that went 4-13. Stevenson also had 168 receiving yards and a catch TD.
Talented Rookie Added To Backfield

The Patriots drafted Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft and he is playing as advertised, including a 100-yard kick return to the house on his first touch in an NFL setting.
Henderson is being predicted to have over 1,000 rushing yards in his rookie season with the Patriots. Rhamondre Stevenson could lose some touches with Henderson’s addition to the team.
In his limited showing in the preseason, Henderson ran for 38 yards and a single rushing touchdown on 5 carries.
“With rookie second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson joining the fray in New England this season, there’s a chance the Patriots find themselves wondering if they’re better off biting an $8.1 million bullet to move on from Stevenson next offseason,” Gagnon wrote.
The Patriots also have Antonio Gibson in the running back room. Gibson ran for 538 yards in his first season in Foxborough, alongside a rushing TD.

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels returns to New England for the third time in his career.
Rhamondre Stevenson and McDaniels have chemistry together as McDaniels was Stevenson’s offensive coordinator in his rookie season. Having familiarity with his old OC could put Stevenson higher on the Patriots’ RB depth chart.
“I’m very comfortable with the offense,” Stevenson said on McDaniels’s offensive scheme. “I think he knows my strengths. I think he knows where I need to work on… He does a great job, not just with me, but everybody.”
Stevenson ran for 606 yards and 5 touchdowns in his rookie season under McDaniels. Now entering the 25-26 season healthy, the former Sooner could surpass that number.
