Arsenal star Reiss Nelson is making a loan switch to Brentford.

Arsenal star makes loan move to Brentford

Reiss Nelson’s Arsenal career has stalled again, and now Brentford look set to cash in on his frustration. The winger has chosen the Bees over other PL and European suitors.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that a medical is already done at the Gtech Community Stadium. It’s a decision that has left plenty of Gunners fans scratching their heads. That is after considering Nelson still has three years left on his contract. He has shown flashes of talent whenever handed minutes.

Last season’s loan spell at Fulham wasn’t to good. But, he still managed two goals and an assist across limited games. Now, Brentford are gambling on him finding consistency in a side desperate for more creativity in wide areas.

Gunners loss or smart business?

Nelson has barely been trusted by Mikel Arteta in the league, with just one start since 2021. Yet, he’s still racked up 90 appearances for his boyhood club. He even scored the winner against the Bees in last year’s EFL Cup.

Now, he his going back to the same club on loan. That could be viewed as Arsenal quietly admitting he doesn’t fit into their future plans. It’s also not the first time these two clubs have struck a deal this summer. Brentford’s former captain Christian Norgaard also headed the other way for £15m.

For Nelson, though, this loan feels like a last shot to prove he belongs in the PL spotlight. If he shines for there, Arsenal may regret letting him go so easily.

Author’s Opinion:

Nelson needed this move more than Arsenal did. He’s got raw pace and skill, but without regular minutes he was wasting away on the bench. Brentford may have just pulled off the smartest gamble of deadline day.
