LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
Vs Virginia Tech: 12 of 19 (63%), 209 yards, one touchdown, one rushing touchdown, one fumble, but recovered by South Carolina.
Preseason Positional Ranking: 1st
One misleading statistic from this game is LaNorris Sellers' rushing yard total, because in college football, when a quarterback is sacked, it is considered a rush attempt, and the yardage is subtracted from the quarterback's rushing total. Because of this, it looks like Sellers didn't do anything special with his legs when, in fact, he had a couple of really impressive plays with his legs. The first drive ended with a 15-yard touchdown run, during which he showcased athleticism and power, before the offense struggled for a bit.
You could see the inexperience of Sellers for a while; he was antsy in the pocket and airmailed a few throws because he didn't have his feet set and panicked under pressure. Sellers was still indecisive at times and held onto the ball longer than he should have. This is something he will improve with more time and experience; he is still only 20 years old.
But in the fourth quarter, Sellers flashed again with a beautiful deep ball to Nyck Harbor to stretch the lead and help put the game away. He also had a run for a first down where he broke multiple tackles in the backfield before scampering for a big gain. He showcased all his tools, including a great arm, excellent athleticism, and strength, and demonstrated the potential he has when he puts it all together.
Does LaNorris Sellers take some sacks? Yes.
Does he also make plays like this? Also yes.
Again...these are the math-changing, game-altering plays on a 3rd-and-13 that Sellers is capable of. pic.twitter.com/UJya8lu24O
