When Oleksandr Zinchenko could make Nottingham Forest debut after deadline day transfer

The arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko rounded off a busy summer window for Nottingham Forest when his loan move from Arsenal was announced late on Monday evening.

The defender became the club’s 13th arrival of the window and their third signing of deadline day. He will now spend the season with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as they look to compete on multiple fronts.

Bolstering his full-back options was a priority for head coach Nuno when the Reds headed into the final stretch of the window. Zinchenko, Cuiabano and Nicolo Savona have all been added to the ranks to strengthen the head coach’s options.

Indeed, Forest have competition for places across the pitch thanks to some excellent summer business. Nuno will have quite the selection headache when it comes to picking his team.

The Portuguese has a bit of time to weigh up his best XI as the Reds are not in action until September 13. And Zinchenko will have even longer to wait for his debut in the Garibaldi.

Forest will make the trip to the Emirates Stadium for their first game after this international break. But Zinchenko will not be available for selection in the capital, as part of the terms of his loan from the Gunners.

The 28-year-old is looking forward to the moment when he does get his chance, though. After his move was announced, he said in a video posted on the Reds’ social media channels: “Hi guys, I am so happy to join Nottingham Forest and so excited for the season ahead. I can’t wait to meet you all there.”

Ineligible for the clash in north London, Zinchenko’s first involvement for Forest could come away to Burnley on September 20. After the match at Turf Moor, Nuno’s men head to Spain to take on Real Betis in their first Europa League outing of the season.

Chief football officer Ross Wilson said of Zinchenko’s arrival: “Alex’s pedigree speaks for itself. He was a big part of an extremely successful Manchester City team and played an important role for Arsenal in recent years.

“He brings invaluable experience to Nottingham Forest, and we are delighted he completes our incoming signings this summer. Alex is a great addition to the team and we are very confident he will have a big impact, on and off the pitch.”

Zinchenko will have to watch from the sidelines against his parent club, but the Reds' other deadline day recruits will be available for selection. Cuiabano, Savona and John Victor, who signed on Sunday, could all be involved.
