Patriots coach sets expectations for Stefon Diggs’ Week 1 status

All signs point to Stefon Diggs being ready for Week 1.

“I would imagine, as of today, he’ll be out there,” New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.”

The coach’s response lines up with what he said in August when asked what the expectations were for the wide receiver against the Las Vegas Raiders.

“That he’s ready to go, and that he helps our offense, and that he helps Drake (Maye),” Vrabel said.

The Patriots list Diggs as their first wide receiver followed by Demario Douglas and Mack Hollins.

Diggs tore his ACL in Week 8 of the 2024 season while he was a member of the Houston Texans. It was unclear if he’d be ready to start the year when the Patriots signed him in March.

The 31-year-old shared cryptic comments throughout the offseason about his status, noting that while he felt good in his recovery and during practice, he wasn’t sure how he felt about playing in Week 1.

“We’ll see. Coaches aren’t too excited. I’m not too excited,” Diggs said on the “Scoop City” podcast on Aug. 14. “I’m just trying to take a day by day. So we’ll see. It looks like we just don’t know where it’s gonna go.”

But it appears Diggs will be ready to take the field on Sunday when New England opens its season at Gillette Stadium.
