Viktor Gyokores Weighs In With His Thoughts On Club Vs Player Battles Following Isak’s Newcastle Exit

**Alexander Isak managed to anger every Newcastle supporter out there with how he forced his move to Liverpool.**

The 25-year-old was sold on Deadline Day for a British record £125m, but it has prompted debate about the level of player power in today’s game. Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is also Isak’s international teammate, was asked for his thoughts on the situation, and he replied:

“The clubs have the most power. It’s maybe difficult for the players to choose in a lot of cases. When it’s a player that is not wanted in that club, I think it’s the total opposite.”

“He doesn’t have any power; the club can literally do whatever they want with the player. It’s difficult, but it is how the situation is.”

Gyokeres acted similarly to Isak

It should be pointed out that the Arsenal forward actually orchestrated his move to the Emirates in a similar manner to his Swedish compatriot.

Gyokeres cited broken promises for missing training at Sporting Lisbon earlier this summer. Former sporting director Hugo Viana had made a promise about selling him if a certain price was met. That agreement was not adhered to when he left the club and president Frederico Varandas took over negotiations.

Newcastle opted to cut their losses

It is believed that the Magpies made one last-ditch effort to keep Isak last week, just before the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool. Co-owner Jamie Reuben and a PIF delegation offered a new contract and a release clause allowing the striker to leave next summer.

That proposal was knocked back, and it was then decided that the best solution was to let the forward leave. A considerable portion of the £125m has already been spent on Isak’s replacements. Nick Woltemade could cost upwards of £69m, with [**Yoane Wissa**](https://newcastleunitednews.org/blog/newcastle-united-transfer-news-jorgen-strand-larsen-yoane-wissa/) brought in for another £55m.
