Surprising Micah Parsons injury update emerges just days after Cowboys trade

The dust is finally settling on the Dallas Cowboys' blockbuster trade that sent All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons to their NFC rival Green Bay Packers. While fans and those around the league are still questioning the move, all the Cowboys can do now is move on.

With the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on the horizon for a season-opening Thursday Night Football matchup, all eyes should be on Nick Sirianni and his squad. This game effectively counts double, considering it is an NFC East showdown.

However, Parsons is still finding ways to make Cowboy-related headlines, and the latest comes as a bit of a shock. While Parsons' injury was thought by most to be a negotiation tactic or a way to get out of mandatory practices, it turns out there may have been some truth to the ailment.

Adam Schefter reveals Micah Parsons injury update ahead of Week 1

On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Parsons' status for the Packers' Week 1 matchup against the Detroit Lions is in jeopardy due to a lingering back injury.

"Packers LB Micah Parsons has been dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back, and he may take an epidural injection prior to Sunday’s game vs. the Lions if needed to help him play, per sources," Schefter wrote. "Before trading Parsons last week, the Cowboys prescribed him a five-day plan of an anti-Inflammatory corticosteroid, a prednisone, to help him recover from back tightness. They also had him on a physical therapy program. Parsons has been practicing this week and he is trying to play in Sunday’s opener vs. the Lions, though one source said it still is uncertain if he will."

This is news to Cowboys fans, as Parsons' injury sounds rather serious. The injury may not be too concerning for the Packers, however, as they would be unlikely to sign off on a trade that granted them a $188 million player with a long-term back issue.

However, this is still something to watch, even though it is likely nothing. Even if Parsons misses the season opener, this could matter in the long run, as the Cowboys are looking to compete for a Wild Card spot with these teams in the NFC.

Every game matters, and at least Kenny Clark is ready to go for Dallas with no concerns. Stopping the run will be incredibly difficult against the duo of Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts, but the Cowboys now feel like they have a better chance with Clark instead of Parsons.

If Parsons has an injury-riddled season, or even career with Green Bay, then perhaps fans will look back on this trade differently. However, it was still the wrong move at the time, and there is no real merit to the fact that this injury should bug Parsons long-term.
