The Buffalo Bills passing game appeared to miss the likes of both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis at times throughout the 2024 NFL season with Keon Coleman struggling and midseason acquisition Amari Cooper producing a career low 547 receiving yards last year.

Well, a familiar face with established chemistry with Josh Allen is returning to the city of Buffalo ahead of the 2025 NFL season in an attempt to help the Bills get over the hump this year.

Report: Gabe Davis Returns to Buffalo Bills Ahead of the 2025 NFL Season

Adam Schefter of ESPN took X with exciting information for the Bills with veteran WR Gabe Davis returning to the city of Buffalo for the 2025 NFL season.

Schefter’s post on X read, “A return to Buffalo: Free-agent WR Gabe Davis is signing with the Buffalo Bills, per sources. Davis initially will be on Buffalo’s practice squad as he continues to recover from last season’s torn meniscus and gets ready to return to play.”

Davis was a productive member of the Bills’ offense when QB Josh Allen was ascending from a promising young quarterback filled with potential to a surefire superstar from 2020 to 2023.

During his time in Buffalo, Davis registered 163 receptions for 2,730 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns over his 64 games with the Bills. Additionally, Davis’ best moment in the NFL came in the playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs when he eight receptions for 201 yards and four touchdowns in the Bills’ overtime loss in the 2021 AFC Divisional Round instant classic.

This led to the UCF product earning a three-year deal worth up to $39 million from the Jacksonville Jaguars last offseason. Unfortunately, injuries limited Davis to just 10 games in 2024, which saw him post career low numbers across the board with just 20 receptions for 239 yards and two scores.

Davis was released earlier this offseason and apparently wasn’t drawing much interest across the league after receiving knee surgery for a torn meniscus last November.

What Kind of Impact Will Gabe Davis Have for this Passing Game in 2025?

The Bills WR room was shaping up to feature Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman as the two leading receivers entering the 2025 NFL season for a second consecutive year after signing just Joshua Palmer this offseason.

The addition of Davis should give this offense a few more explosive plays once the veteran WR fully recovers from his knee surgery.

Shakir led the Bills WR room with 76 receptions for 821 yards and four scores in 2024 but has been dealing with an ankle injury throughout the vast majority of the preseason.

Coleman has been drawing positive reviews throughout training camp, but finished with a disappointing 29 receptions for 556 yards and four scores while battling through a wrist injury over the back half of his rookie season.

Lastly, Dalton Kincaid hasn’t exactly lived up expectations since the organization selected him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Utah product saw his targets, receptions, and receiving yards all regress from a promising rookie year while working through a knee injury in 2024.

Ultimately, there is virtually no downside to bringing in Davis entering the year. Davis may never live up to the high expectations many had for him after his career-defining performance against the Chiefs in the playoffs, but the 26-year-old veteran wideout should have a positive impact for this offense in 2025.
