Little-known UEFA rule means Arsenal could be 'banned' from facing Inter Milan away in…

Arsenal fans will be buzzing to travel to Inter Milan again in the upcoming Champions League campaign, having visited the San Siro last season in their run that saw them reach the semi-final of the Champions League - but they'll have to enjoy their visit to the Nerazzurri this time around as they won't be able to do so next season.

Arsenal's league phase clash against Simone Inzaghi's men last season was their only loss from the start of their journey, until they lost in the semi-final to Paris Saint-Germain - with a Hakan Calhanoglu penalty being the decider back in November, though Arsenal went on to win the remainder of their league phase games to come third in the table.

Arsenal Won't be Allowed to Play at the San Siro vs Inter Milan Next Season

With the draw for this season's competition being made last week, they'll face another trip to the San Siro, this time in January 2026, in what looks to be their toughest test of the schedule.

But fans must lap up their trip to the San Siro, as they won't be able to visit again in the league phase next season if Inter are drawn in the 2026/27 campaign - leaving a potential visit to ground-sharers AC Milan as their only potential way of featuring at the Mediterranean relic.

A UEFA rule change has essentially stopped them from playing the Serie A giants away from home next season, with the Club Competitions Committee determining a condition that will be applicable next season - essentially deciding that any one fixture between the same two teams may not be repeated in the same competition with the same home team for three seasons.

With Arsenal having played there last season as well as in the current campaign, any trip to the Lombardian behemoth will be ruled out. The only other way in which Mikel Arteta's side could play there next season is in the knockout rounds, or if AC Milan manage to qualify for the league phase. The rule also doesn't cancel out the fact that Inter can also play at the Emirates Stadium, due to it not being held at a different venue.

If they were drawn against each other, then the match would take place at the Emirates Stadium, with one of Arsenal's home fixture potentially being moved to an away ground.

The rule therefore also prevents Real Madrid from travelling to Liverpool next season, having lost 2-0 at Anfield last season before venturing to Merseyside again in early November this time around.
