Pittsburgh Steelers miss out on hard-nosed free agent wide receiver

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver target Gabe Davis is heading to the Buffalo Bills. Davis visited the Steelers twice over the last three months, but the team came out of both visits with concerns about his knee.

Davis is signing with the Bills’ practice squad as they make a plan for him to ramp up and join the active roster. He will be reunited with Josh Allen and a team familiar with his skillset.

Davis is coming off knee surgery in November. He suffered a torn meniscus, which still has to heal in his left knee. In addition, he had suffered a PCL sprain in January 2024, adding some more concern to that knee.

The Jaguars released Davis with a failed physical designation. That clearly spells out that Davis was not healthy earlier this summer, and he is only now rounding into game shape to play.

In just ten games in 2024, Davis caught 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns. That was enough for the Jaguars to cut him just one year into a three-year, $39 million deal.

His 2023 was far better, amassing 746 yards in 17 games on 46 receptions. His career year came in 2023, when Davis posted 836 yards and seven touchdowns on 48 receptions.
