New England Patriots legend Tom Brady raised eyebrows this week with comments on Aaron Rodgers, who is entering his 21st NFL season, and first with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brady was asked about Rodgers by Pro Football Focus’ Cris Collinsworth, specifically about how Rodgers can find success in his 40s (like Brady did).
“What do you think (Rodgers) has to do to have that great walk-off moment that you had?” Collinsworth asked Brady during an exclusive interview.
“It’s a great question,” Brady replied. “Aaron’s proven … he’s won a Super Bowl … many championship games. He’s a winner, and I think what I’ve always appreciated about him, what everybody does, is his ability to throw the football.”
“Aaron in his prime, to me, is the greatest passer of the football the league’s ever seen,” Brady continued.

“He could get the ball from point A to B faster and more accurate than any player, I think, in the history of the NFL.”
Wow!
While Rodgers is known for being one of the game’s all-time great arms, it’s still somewhat shocking to hear arguably the greatest football player of all time — and certainly the greatest all-around quarterback of all time — so bluntly praise Rodgers in this fashion.

It makes you wonder whether or not Rodgers is actually underrated in discussions about the league’s all-time best quarterbacks and players.
Brady’s striking compliment of Rodgers is also really special because it shows that Brady is a guy who isn’t afraid to dish out love to his peers and former adversaries. Tipping his cap to Rodgers in this way only strengthens Brady’s standing as a broadcasting voice and overall NFL source, because it shows that he isn’t letting his own ego get in the way of evaluating things.

A lot of players in Brady’s position might hesitate to deliver such a grandiose compliment to a competitor, but Brady is above that. He’s only interested in delivering lucid football takes that are as close to objectivity as possible, and you love to see it from the GOAT.
