New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson is sending a strong statement to the city of New York, and it's good.
The New York Giants are just days away from the opening regular season game of their 2025-26 season, and those in the Big Apple and hoping and praying for a comeback season for the franchise. This fanbase has been through a lot, and they deserve to see some success.
New York still has thee same head coach that they did last year in Brian Daboll, but their quarterback roster looks totally different. The lineup brings together veteran Russell Wilson, veteran Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart. The Giants waived signal-called Tommy DeVito before the regular seasons started.
There are a lot of expectations around Dart, who the Giants traded up for in the 2025 NFL draft. But, don’t lose sight of the reality that Wilson will be the team’s starter. Ahead of the season opener, Wilson sent the perfect message to those in New York.
Giants Quarterback Russell Wilson Has Words for the Franchise
Wilson has made it obvious that he loves being a quarterback in the Big Apple. Speaking to the press on Wednesday, August 27, Wilson made it clear that he wants to be here.
“Coming to work here is a blessing every day. I don’t even consider it work; it’s just getting to do what we love to do. To be a New York Giant is an honor,” he told reporters.
“Yeah, this is the great part about the season,” he added regarding the time right before the season starts. “Obviously, to be able to get through training camp, OTAs, all that, and all the work that we’ve done as a team, a collective effort, and the growth.”
He added, “We’ve had a lot of great days, a lot of great moments, obviously, in the preseason, OTAs, all the camaraderie, all that part, that’s been great. I think what’s exciting is we get to do what we love to do here in 13 days, or however many days it is. It’s exciting, and we just stay focused on the task.”
So, what should the Giants fanbase expect from this season? “I think the biggest thing we’ll bring is tough-nose football, physical, offense, defense, special teams, a team that believes in each other, ultimately,” Wilson said. “And that’s really all that matters, that we believe in each other.”
New York Giants’ Biggest Concern
A collection of staffers lay out the strengths and concerns for all 32 teams in the league in a feature published on Sunday, August 31. “This is everything you need to know for the start of the season, which will conclude Feb. 8 at Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) ranked every team from 1 to 32 based on how it projects the season to play out,” ESPN states. The 2025 NFL season starts Thursday night, September 4, when the Eagles host the Cowboys.
“Can the offense score enough?” they ask. “The Giants have raved about veteran quarterback Russell Wilson’s leadership and the effect it will have on the group. But is it enough to turn the 31st-ranked scoring offense into a more effective unit? New York returns 10 of 11 starters on offense, and perhaps its most indispensable player, left tackle Andrew Thomas, was recently activated off the PUP list and didn’t play a preseason snap.”
Let’s hope Wilson, Dart and the offense pull off some good surprises.
