According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Denver Broncos worked out former Dallas Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn today. Vaughn was waived by the Cowboys last week and remains unsigned as we near the start of week 1, and now the Broncos are showing some interest.
Vaughn is a 23-year-old running back who comes in at 5-6, 185 pounds, and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 6th round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He appeared in 14 games and totaled 40 carries for 110 yards and 10 receptions for 58 yards during his two seasons with the Cowboys. He has good speed, but his size has limited what he can do in the NFL.
Currently, the Broncos have four running backs on their 53-man roster, but do not have any backs on their practice squad. They waived Audric Estime and gave Blake Watson an injury settlement because he will be sidelined for a few weeks due to a knee injury. So, the Broncos could be looking to improve their depth at the running back position.
Vaughn was compared to former Saints running back Darren Sproles, mostly due to his size, but he has not proven as of yet to be that type of player in the NFL. Broncos Head Coach Sean Payton has repeatedly mentioned his admiration of Sproles and would likely be interested in a player who has reminded some of the former explosive running back. It remains to be seen if the Broncos do indeed sign him to their practice squad but they are at least showing interest in the former Cowboys running back.
