Green Bay Packers fans have mixed reactions to Lions HC Dan Campbell’s praise for Lambeau Field

The Green Bay Packers are set to take on the Detroit Lions at home at historic Lambeau Field for their Week One matchup this coming Sunday. There are a great deal of storylines surrounding their initial game of the season, not the least of which is what the defense will look like now that it boasts three-time All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons, who was acquired via trade late last week.

Indeed, the addition of Parsons, at least on paper, makes Green Bay’s defense a formidable foe for any team the NFL season. And the Packers hope that it turns out to be the case as they look to improve their performance against their NFC North rivals, whom they finished just 1-5 against last year.

The Lions, particularly, have been troublesome for Green Bay over the last four seasons, as the Packers are just 1-7 against them in that time. Detroit’s rise to back-to-back NFC North champions has been one of the bigger storylines in the NFL over the last several years, as has the leadership of their head coach, Dan Campbell.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell watches a play against Green Bay Packers during the second half at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024.

Of course, the Lions visit Lambeau Field every year, but this is the first time since 2001 that they will visit for their first game of an NFL season (the Packers won that game 28-6).

Regardless of how many times he has visited Lambeau, though, Detroit’s head coach still considers it an honor any time his team plays there. He told reporters today:

“Love Lambeau, it’s awesome, it’s one of those places, on the 8th day, the Good Lord made Lambeau—— if you love football, you love to go play there”

“Love Lambeau, it’s awesome, it’s one of those places, on the 8th day, the Good Lord made Lambeau—— if you love football, you love to go play there”

And while the praise is probably genuine and reflects that of many others around the league, Packers fans met the compliments with some mixed reactions:

Respect the man, hate the team. Hope he has a bad time on Sunday. https://t.co/ij1xdayr2K

All time quote by Coach Campbell.

The most respect I can show you is wanting to beat you by 30. https://t.co/wuwRw1wVYH

Stop buying this man’s sweet talk. He always talks like this before they come to Green Bay and then they come whoop ass. Dan wants to be liked by Packer fans so the environment is easier to play in. Packer fans that live in/around GB are majority soft https://t.co/BiPxH0n0Ge

I hate how likable he is. I hate it so much. Go coach outside the nfc north https://t.co/pFuSL9g0dc

We’re still gonna beat your a**. #GoPackGo https://t.co/dHsaoQM9M7

Regardless of the variety of responses, they did all have one thing in common: Green Bay’s fans desperately want to see the Packers beat the Lions on Sunday.
