The Buffalo Bills are nearing the start of their 2025-26 season, and quarterback Josh Allen is sending a strong message ahead of it.
There is still a long way to go before the Buffalo Bills should be thinking about making any moves for 2026. The 2025 season hasn’t even kicked off, and Buffalo still has many goals to achieve first.
While the Bills players are worried about their upcoming season, general manager Brandon Beane probably has one eye on the top college prospects.
Bills Predicted to Draft Carnell Tate
One prospect to watch out for is Ohio State’s wide receiver Carnell Tate. The junior receiver is expected to be a first-round pick next year, and Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone mocked the Bills to draft Tate.
“Do the Bills have an every-down target eater? Do they need one?” Bedinger wrote, “I would argue they absolutely do, and that’s where someone like Carnell Tate could come into play.”
Tate has appeared in 29 games for the Buckeyes, recording 1,046 receiving yards and six touchdowns. On Saturday, Ohio State had a top-three showdown with No. 1 Texas. The contest was low scoring, but Tate had an incredible 40-yard touchdown, which he juggled in the air with the cornerback on top of him.
After the game, Tate told the media that he had to make the catch no matter what. “As a receiver, you have to go make the play,” Tate said on August 30th Via Ohio State.com. Whether the DB is shorter than you or whether you’re open, whatever you have to do. What happens to you when the ball comes, either a penalty is thrown, or you make the catch, and I made the catch.”
Ohio State has put a handful of first-round receivers in the NFL over the years, and the Bills need to get on that train.
Bedinger thinks Tate could be one of the next Buckeye receivers to hear his name called in the first round. “The Ohio State program is always going to have receivers drawing first-round attention because of how great those guys have been at the NFL level in recent years, and Tate could be one of the next ones, even if he’s not going to get the same level of hype as someone like Jeremiah Smith,” Bedinger added.
Tate Could Join a List Of Great Buckeye WRs
Over the past four years, five receivers from the Buckeyes have been selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. In 2022, the New York Jets selected Garrett Wilson, and the New Orleans Saints picked Chris Olave. In 2023, the Seattle Seahawks drafted Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Last season, the Arizona Cardinals chose Marvin Harrison Jr., and most recently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Emeka Egbuka this past April.
Tate still has a long way to go before he hears his name get called to the NFL. But the Bills would be an excellent place for him.
Many young great receivers find themselves in bad situations due to poor quarterback play. This is the exact opposite of the Bills. Quarterback Josh Allen is one of the best in the NFL, and would make Tate one of the best young receivers in the NFL.
Buffalo is still working on trying to make last year’s second-round receiver Keon Coleman a star. If Coleman takes a step this year, he and Tate could be a great duo in 2026.
