Former Buffalo Bills locker room favorite wants to run it back with team

The Buffalo Bills have been running it back all summer with former key contributors.

In free agency, Buffalo signed cornerbacks Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson to provide depth and competition at the position. White, if healthy, is expected to start opposite Christian Benford in Week 1, while Jackson was signed to the practice squad after getting released by the team.

Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips was the next player to rejoin Buffalo. Phillips, 32, came back to Buffalo for a fourth stint to join the practice squad. The veteran could be elevated to the main roster after DeWayne Carter suffered an Achilles injury that ended his season.

One Jordan running it back was not enough for the Bills. Following roster cuts, it was announced that veteran safety Jordan Poyer would be signing with Buffalo’s practice squad. Poyer is expected to be a mentor of sorts for second-year safety Cole Bishop as well as rookie Jordan Hancock.

Gabe Davis became the latest player to return to Buffalo on Tuesday. The former big-play receiver for the Bills will be signing with the practice squad while he recovers from a torn meniscus injury from last season.

After seeing five former Bills rejoin the team in the past few months, a former favorite in the locker room let it be known that he was open to a return as well. On X, wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie shared news of Davis’ signing with the hashtag, “Bring Lil Dirty Back.”

McKenzie’s response was likely tongue-in-cheek, but he is still an active receiver in the league. In 2024, McKenzie spent the summer with the New York Giants before getting released in late August. He would sign with the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad in late December.

McKenzie first joined Buffalo’s roster in 2018. He served as a gadget player and returner during his time with the Bills. McKenzie’s best season came in 2022 with Buffalo when he posted a 42-423-4 stat line.

While the Bills have brought back several former players, it’s unlikely that McKenzie will be joining the list.
