For a relatively significant stretch the Minnesota Vikings found themselves consistently under the microscope of the law. Of course that’s a direct reflection of the position that their players have continued to put themselves in.

Last summer it was Jordan Addison asleep behind the wheel. He submitted to a “wet reckless” charge and will now serve a three-game suspension to open the year.

Since retired, Everson Griffen is no stranger to run-ins with the law either. Not shockingly, he found himselves crossing paths yet again.

Everson Griffen cited after another run-in with authorities

Despite having played his last NFL snap in 2021, Everson Griffen is still a resident of Minnesota. The 2010 fourth round NFL Draft pick also struggles to stay out of the news for all the wrong reasons. This week is was a ticket for going double the speed limit.

Griffen, who is on probation for a DWI conviction, was pulled over in his 2020 Bentley Bentayga SUV by Minnetonka police on I-494 near Stone Road about 10:15 p.m. for allegedly going 130 mph in a 60 mph zone, court records show. The 37-year-old from Minnetrista was cited for misdemeanor reckless driving and speeding, a petty misdemeanor.

Pioneer Press writer Nick Ferraro said the incident took place late on Friday. The infraction comes less than two months after he was arrested on a July 19 warrant. Griffen was under conditions that prohibited him from alcohol or substance abuse.

Griffen was supposed to enter a treatment program at the Retreat in Wayzata earlier this summer. His behavior has been problematic and erratic for years, dating back to his playing days.

Unfortunately, and although it’s possible that Griffen suffers from mental health issues related to football, he has failed to take action. Consistently the former Vikings edge rusher finds himself in trouble with the law, and looking for an excuse to avoid consequences.

Right now his DWI case remains pending, and the latest infraction won’t help things when he has a review hearing in October.

Tale of the tape for MN Vikings Griffen gets longer

It would be one thing if Everson Griffen cared to get out of his way and make his situation better. Instead he continues to live with no regards for himself or anyone else around him.

This latest infraction just adds to the rap sheet he has built up with authorities.

Griffen also missed time in 2018 due to mental health issues, and called 911 in 2021 after posting disturbing messages and claiming there was an intruder in his home despite no one being present.

There is clearly a lot wrong with Griffen, and until he submits to a serious level of help, change isn’t likely to follow. For now though, it’d be best is someone took away his keys so the rest of the state doesn’t need to be at risk.
