Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are dealing with a rash of injuries.
Quarterback conversations are one of the biggest NFL talking topics. The signal caller is the most important position on every team. If a franchise has a great one, they are in a good spot. The Buffalo Bills are lucky to have Josh Allen, who’s one of the best in the league.
Allen is coming off winning his first NFL MVP award, finishing 2024 with 3,731 yards passing, 28 touchdowns, while picking up 531 rushing yards and 12 scores.
The one thing that is hurting Allen is his failure to reach the Super Bowl. In the last five playoffs, he has lost four times to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and once to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Josh Allen is Fourth in QB Rankings
The one quarterback Allen has been able to beat in the postseason over the last five years is Baltimore Ravens‘ Lamar Jackson, beating him twice. With that being said, Allen finished behind Mahomes, Burrow, and Jackson in Fansided Christopher Kline’s quarterback rankings heading into the season.
Kline ranked Allen as the fourth quarterback in the NFL, which is also fourth in the AFC. “Josh Allen finally reached the nexus last season and dragged an undermanned Bills team to the AFC Championship Game in the process,” Kline wrote on September 2nd. He also won league MVP, sneaking up from behind Lamar Jackson in the dead of night. It was a well-deserved recognition and a real “I’m here” moment for the Wyoming product.”
Even though Allen should be ranked second behind Mahomes, having him ranked fourth is no knock. There are about eight quarterbacks who can lead a team to a Super Bowl victory, and Allen is in that group.
Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl behind quarterback Jalen Hurts. Kline ranked Hurts as the eighth-best quarterback heading into the season. Hurts threw for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns in 15 games last season. He is also great with his legs, picking up 630 rushing yards and 14 scores.
However, Hurts benefited from having a great defense and having running back Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, winning the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
While Allen might not be on a better team than Hurts, he is the better quarterback. If Hurts can win a Super Bowl, then there’s no question that Allen can as well. He needs to get over his nightmares in the AFC first.
Allen Has Transformed His Career
Although Allen hasn’t yet reached his end goal of winning a Super Bowl, he’s making progress. He has transformed his entire image as a player since entering the NFL in 2018.
When Allen was coming out of Wyoming, a primary concern for him was his turnovers and accuracy issues. In 27 college games, Allen threw 15 interceptions while having a completion rate of 56.2%.
To compare, quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was the first pick in the year Allen was drafted, had a completion rate of 68.5%.
However, Allen’s 6-foot-5, 240-pound frame with a rocket of an arm had teams interested in him. The Bills banked on Allen’s traits, and the rest has been history. Allen has a career completion rate of 63.3% and only threw six interceptions last season, a career low.
Allen continues to build on his success every year, and one season, everything will fall into place, and he will be holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
