Ridley, Surtain a matchup to watch on Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - When the Tennessee Titans visit the Denver Broncos on Sunday, there will be plenty of storylines to follow.

But one matchup will be key for both teams: Titans receiver Calvin Ridley against Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.

Ridley tallied more than 1000 yards receiving in 2024 for the Titans and is their top pass-catching threat.

Surtain, meanwhile, is a lockdown corner that quarterbacks throw away from. He had four interceptions and 11 passes defended last season, which helped earn him the Defensive Player of the Year honors in the NFL.

“Great corner, Florida boy,” said Ridley. “Like you said, defensive MVP. Really good player.”

So how do you win matchups against a defensive back of Surtain’s caliber?

“Just be a really good wide receiver in the run game and the pass game. Make everything look the same. And we’ll just see how it goes,” added Ridley.

The Broncos’ defense will likely key on Ridley to try to take him out of the Titans’ offensive game plan. As a play-caller, Titans head coach Brian Callahan will have to scheme up matchups to combat that.

“That’s certainly what we’ll be hellbent on doing is finding ways to get our best players the ball like every team in the league does. And it’ll be a cat-and-mouse game of them trying to make sure they take away what we think we’re doing well and us finding ways to take advantage of what we perceive as weaknesses. So, that’s pretty, I think, standard process for us. But yeah, my job is to find ways to get the ball to the guys that can help us win.”
