Liège start-up Myocene signs contract with US football team

Myocene, a Liège-based company specialising in the algorithmic assessment of muscle fatigue, announced on Wednesday that it has signed a contract with the Buckeyes, the reigning champions of the University American Football League.

The company's device uses high-precision electrostimulation and force measurement to obtain a muscle fatigue index in 90 seconds. The aim is to help top athletes manage their fatigue and thus avoid injury.

Myocene's device was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration earlier this year, and the Liège-based start-up established a subsidiary in the US in the first half of the year.

Important step

The contract with the Buckeyes, the Ohio State University team in Columbus, marks another important step in the company's international development and expansion into the US market.

The contract "reinforces our ambition to become a key player in sports performance monitoring and injury prevention in the United States and internationally," said Jean-Yves Mignolet, Myocene's CEO.

Fundraising campaign

Myocene added that the contract would bolster the ongoing fundraising campaign, which is intended to support the acceleration of international marketing. Some 500,000 euros remain to be raised out of the 3 million euros sought.

The Myocene device has already attracted several European soccer clubs, including OGC Nice, Sporting Clube Braga, Paris Saint-Germain and Crystal Palace.
