Despite the dry spell, Merino believes the striker’s contribution to the team has been vital.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, Merino expressed full confidence in Gyokeres’ ability to turn things around. He said that Gyokeres has the quality, the tools, and the physicality to score goals. Merino added that it is only a matter of time before the goals start flowing again.

But the main thing, as I said before, is that the team wins. As long as the team is winning he, and everybody, is going to be happy.”

But if you see the games, you can see how much he gives us.”
