CONFIRMED: West Ham Star Set For Spell On The Sidelines After Limping Off Against Brentford

West Ham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that Konstantinos Mavropanos is unlikely to face Leeds on Friday.

The Greek international was forced off in the closing stages of the 2-0 defeat to Brentford, which meant that the Hammers had to finish the game with ten men. Asked about Mavropanos’s fitness in his post-match press conference, Nuno said:

“Probably for the next one [against Leeds], he is not going to be available. Hopefully for November 2nd [vs Newcastle United]. Let’s see.”

West Ham will host Newcastle in their next home game in just under two weeks’ time, so Mavropanos will face a race to be fit for the fixture.

Mavropanos’s injury is a big blow

The centre-back partnership of Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman was nothing short of an unmitigated disaster against Brentford, so Mavropanos’s absence is really a major setback for Nuno.

It was a surprise that the 27-year-old didn’t start the game on Monday night, considering he had performed well in the previous fixture against Arsenal, where he had kept Viktor Gyokeres pretty quiet.

West Ham’s lack of depth at centre-half means that Todibo and Kilman will likely line up in defence once again when they face Leeds at Elland Road later this week.

Mavropanos is one of three first-team players currently on the treatment table. Nuno has said that striker Niclas Fullkrug has undergone a scan to determine how long he will be sidelined for. The German injured his thigh just before the last international break.

Attacking midfielder George Earthy is also unavailable due to a hamstring injury. The 21-year-old is expected to be absent for at least a couple more weeks, with a return in early-to-mid November having been pencilled in.
