**Mikel Arteta says he is delighted for Viktor Gyokeres after the striker scored a double in Arsenal’s win over Atletico Madrid.**
The Sweden international had gone seven games without a goal but ended that drought to help his side thrash Atletico 4-0 in the Champions League, with Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli scoring the side’s other goals.
And Arteta says it is [a reward for the hard work Gyokeres has been putting in](https://hayters.com/merino-praises-gyokeres-impact-at-arsenal/).
“I think he deserves it because everything we were seeing in terms of what he was bringing to the team and he was helping the team in many areas, apart from scoring goals in the last few weeks,” Arteta said.
“There was no debate about that. It was about keeping that belief in himself and keeping that emotional state so that he can enjoy it and play freely.
“I think he’s certainly done that today and he was rewarded with two goals.
“A big smile on his face and look at his team-mates as well in the pictures and the video, they are all so happy for him because he fully deserves it.
“He makes us a much better team. He makes us much more unpredictable. He’s so physical, he opens the spaces for everybody, the way he presses the ball, holds the ball.
“He’s just phenomenal and then the icing on the cake and the biggest thing we’re going to debate about him is goals and he scored two very different ones today and hopefully he starts to get some momentum and a good run of goals.”
