Arsenal supporters have praised the club for introducing a new measure to help create a better atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners thrashed Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night, scoring four times in 13 second-half minutes. After a dominant but frustrating first-half performance, Mikel Arteta’s side turned the screw and were rewarded in style with goals from Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli and two from Viktor Gyokeres.

The crowd lapped up what they were seeing and their enjoyment was heard loud and clear as they celebrated a third straight win and clean sheet in the Champions League. Arteta has been clear that he wants their home ground to become an intimidating place for away sides and fans noticed a change on Tuesday night.

Visiting the concourse at half-time, fans were greeted by a message which read: “We won’t be showing the second half of tonight’s match live on screen. Every supporter has a role to play. Please head to your seat to watch the game to help create an unforgettable atmosphere!”

Some supporters have previously been reluctant to return to their seats promptly for the second half, partly because they can drink alcohol and watch the game on the screens. The club clearly feels that has affected the atmosphere and have taken action in a move that has drawn praise from fans.

A post on X read: “I like this. Gonna do nothing realistically but shows the club are aware and actively doing what they can to work on improving the atmosphere.” The replies were full of similar comments.

“I noticed this as well. Every little helps,” one fan wrote. “I really like this, glad the club have noticed it,” a second added. A third posted: “Actually loved this move, hope they keep games off the live screens – crowd was alive in that 2nd half pure passion everywhere. best vibe of the season.”

Another concluded: “I saw the same when I popped out to use the toilet. I think it’s a great initiative and it should continue. The concourse was almost totally empty.”

Speaking last month after Arsenal removed the cover from the tunnel at the Emirates in an effort to try and bring the fans closer to the players, Arteta noted the desire to improve the atmosphere at home. “Obviously us as a club, we always the ambition to generate the best atmosphere in the world at the Emirates,” he said.

“We have the best supporters in the world and now we have to facilitate everything. The team has to give the right feelings to our supporters every time we play in front of them. We need to develop, as well, the stadium in the manner that we want and we need to ignite that will that we have to play every single ball with us, because it makes such a difference.

“We want to play and win the things that we want to win, that’s a non-negotiable, you need to have a stadium that is able to create those moments, for sure.”
