Viktor Gyokeres finally broke his goal drought and immediately turned his focus to helping Arsenal chase silverware this season.

The Swedish striker struck twice in quick succession as the Gunners demolished Atletico Madrid 4-0 at the Emirates, sending a clear message that Mikel Arteta’s side are serious contenders for the Champions League crown.

The £64 million summer signing ended a 600-minute wait for a goal before adding another just three minutes later. His double, along with efforts from Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli, sealed a commanding win that further cemented Arsenal’s European ambitions.

“Of course, I want to contribute and score goals. To score four and keep a clean sheet again is very good. We always keep going. We do the things right when we defend and when we get the chances we are extremely strong in taking those. Both my goals were great. I try to do my best all the time and work hard, contribute with different stuff and the goals would have come sooner or later.”

Gyokeres, who wears Arsenal’s iconic No.14 shirt once made famous by club legend Thierry Henry, said he feels inspired by the history behind the number.

“It feels great, to be honest. There’s a lot of goals in this shirt. It feels amazing,” he told CBS. “To be honest, there weren’t many shirt numbers available but when 14 was available, it was a big honour.”

Gyokeres’ brace not only reignited his confidence but also underlined Arsenal’s growing strength and togetherness, qualities that could prove vital as the North London side continue their hunt for trophies on multiple fronts this season.
