"He Gives You A Different Option" - Gael Clichy Tells Arteta To Give "Super" Arsenal Star More Minutes

Former Arsenal defender Gael Clichy has told Mikel Arteta to play one of his players more often than he has been.

The Gunners won 4-0 against Atletico Madrid in their last game on Tuesday night, keeping their 100% win record in the Champions League after three matches. Mikel Arteta will be delighted that his side sit on top of the Premier League table, and perfect in the Champions League.

Arsenal will now look ahead to the game against Crystal Palace at the weekend, and Arteta will have some tough line-up decisions to make after the Madrid win.

So far this season, Arteta has rotated at the left-back, left-wing and attacking midfield positions, meaning that he will have to drop certain names each and every week, but what does he do against Palace?

Clichy tells Arteta to start Myles Lewis-Skelly for Arsenal

During the win against Atletico Madrid, left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly shined, especially in the build up to Arsenal’s second goal by Gabriel Martinelli. He carried the ball like a box to box midfielder, setting up the Brazilian winger.

After the game, former Arsenal defender Gael Clichy praised the left-back, and says that he gives Arsenal something different to Riccardo Calafiori, who has been starting at left-back.

Clichy said on TNT Sports via Football 365: “We discussed about the choice of Mikel [Arteta] putting Lewis-Skelly or putting [Riccardo] Calafiori in. And I think that’s the reason because he gives you a different option. He gives you the wide option.

“I think you know the first part of the goal is unbelievable, but the final pass is probably the hardest weight of that pass. Beautiful. And hopefully, this will allow him to get more minutes, he’s a super talent.”

Arteta hails 18-year-old Lewis-Skelly

After the game against Atletico, Arsenal manager Arteta was delighted with the England international, he said in his post-match interview: “If you look at it from what he’s done from December last year to now, at his age, at this level, it’s incredible.

“But I said it before, he’s been really focused, really humble, and really good. I thought he was really good today.”

So far this season, Lewis-Skelly has made eight appearances for the Gunners, including an assist in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.
