Eberechi Eze has shed light on one of the defining moments of his career, a transfer decision that almost saw him join Tottenham Hotspur before Arsenal’s late intervention turned everything on its head.
In an interview with The Athletic, the England international revealed that once Arsenal entered the picture, there was never any real doubt about where his heart lay. What might have been a move across North London to Spurs was swiftly eclipsed by the pull of the Emirates.
Eze, who left Crystal Palace this summer, described Arsenal’s appeal as something that transcends football, a blend of ambition, culture, and vision that made the choice inevitable once Mikel Arteta’s side came calling.
Now a regular fixture in Arteta’s starting lineup, the 27-year-old has played a key role in Arsenal’s surge to the top of the Premier League, while also helping maintain their unbeaten start in the Champions League.

Eze came within touching distance of signing for Tottenham earlier in the summer window, but Arsenal’s late approach flipped the script entirely.
He told The Athletic that the Gunners’ last-minute move left him with no hesitation: “I was prepared to go to Tottenham, but from the moment Arsenal came, it was always going to be them,” Eze said, capturing the emotional weight of the move in an interview that has since rippled through the Premier League’s transfer grapevine.

Reflecting on what makes Arsenal so magnetic under Arteta, Eze likened the experience to performing on a grand stage, where the intensity of expectation fuels the magic of the moment.

“Playing for Arsenal is more like a show or theatre,” he said. “There’s more pressure, playing for titles, but it’s something I’ve dreamed of.”
Since his arrival, Eze has more than justified Arsenal’s faith. Despite missing preseason, he has seamlessly adapted to the club’s high-octane rhythm, showcasing versatility across multiple positions.
Arteta has used him dynamically, on the left flank against Nottingham Forest, dictating play from midfield against Newcastle, and even operating in a deeper role when needed. The Arsenal boss has lauded Eze’s adaptability and tactical awareness, once describing him as “super intelligent” with a “chess-like” understanding of the game.
Yet the midfielder suggests he’s only scratching the surface. Hinting at more to come, Eberechi Eze teased that he still has a “secret weapon” to unveil, one that could elevate his artistry under Arteta’s meticulous guidance and add a new creative dimension to Arsenal’s title charge.
