Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has been linked with a move away from the North London club in recent months.
Gabriel Jesus is currently sidelined with a long-term knee injury. The Brazilian international has been out of action since January, and there have been rumours that Arsenal could look to sell him.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to his boyhood club, Palmeiras. However, the striker has now revealed in an interview with ESPN that he wishes to continue at Arsenal until the end of his contract.
Gabriel Jesus has a contract with the North London club until 2027, and he is waiting to see if they are willing to offer him a contract renewal. If Arsenal do not decide to renew his contract, he will continue at the club until the end of his current deal.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian international has also revealed that the club hierarchy and manager Mikel Arteta are waiting for him to return to action soon. They see him as an important part of their plans going forward.
“Every day, the [Arsenal] coach and the board say they’re eager for my return. I don’t see myself outside the club’s plans. I have a contract until 2027, and if it’s not renewed by then, I’ll be at the club at least until 2027.”
It remains to be seen whether Jesus can hold down a regular starting spot at Arsenal after returning from injury. The Gunners have already signed Victor Gyokeres, who is the first-choice striker at the club right now. Jesus will struggle for regular game time at Arsenal if he stays. He needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Gabriel Jesus could be useful for Arsenal
There is no doubt that Gabriel Jesus, who cost Arsenal £45 million, is a quality player, and he has shown that with Manchester City and the Brazilian national team in the past. He is versatile enough to operate as a striker as well as a wide player.
The former Manchester City attacker is more than just a goalscorer, and he will help create opportunities in the final third. His technical ability and ingenuity could prove to be invaluable for Arsenal in the final third.
The Gunners have struggled to create opportunities at times, and having an intelligent player like Jesus in the side could prove to be ideal for them during the second half of the season. It remains to be seen whether the Brazilian international can perform at a high level and convince the club to offer him a renewal.
