Arsenal’s win against Palace wasn’t a convincing win, as the Eagles really tested Mikel Arteta’s side. But, their strong defence was able to keep another clean sheet, and Eberechi Eze scored the winning goal against his former team.
It was Arsenal’s seventh win in a row in all competitions, and they are now the frontrunners to go on and win the Premier League title.
Shearer says Arsenal are in the “driving seat”
After the win against Palace on Sunday, Alan Shearer spoke on why Arsenal are a step above their title rivals in the Premier League. He said on the Rest is Football Podcast: “It wasn’t as comfortable as Arsenal would like and it wasn’t a great performance but they won the game.
“You’re going to get games like this that come after a European game in midweek and you just need to get the result. The huge advantage Arsenal have over Liverpool, Man City and whoever else thinks they can challenge is the defence and the set-pieces.
“They’re in the driving seat because of they’re ability to just win a game even when they’re not playing well and that’s a result of the set-pieces and how good they are at the back. That’s why they’ve got such a clear lead at the top of the Premier League at the moment.”
The Gunners’ next Premier League game comes against newly-promoted side Burnley too, which could be a chance for them to further extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
