Arsenal join two other Premier League clubs in race for€100 million-rated Spanish star

Arsenal were one of the busiest clubs during the summer transfer window, with the Gunners adding eight new players to Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad in their quest to challenge for major honours this season.

Now sitting comfortably at the top of the Premier League table, Arsenal could strengthen further in January as they look to maintain their momentum in the title race.

According to recent reports, the Gunners have joined North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in the race to sign Porto’s 21-year-old Spanish striker, Samu Aghehowa, who currently has a €100 million release clause in his contract.

Aghehowa has been in outstanding form this season, scoring eight goals in 10 appearances for FC Porto, showcasing his explosive pace, intelligent movement, and lethal finishing ability.

The powerful 193 cm forward has already recorded 37 appearances and 24 goals for Porto’s senior team. Known for his strength, aerial presence, and ability to finish with both feet and his head, Aghehowa also impresses with his defensive work rate, pressing intensity, and willingness to track back, qualities that make him an invaluable all-round striker.

News outlets including CaughtOffside have reported that Tottenham currently lead the race for his signature, driven by Dominic Solanke’s injury and their urgent need for attacking reinforcements.

Discussions have reportedly focused on a short-term loan deal with an option to buy, though Porto’s high valuation remains a major obstacle.

While Arsenal are keen on adding long-term attacking depth to their squad, Newcastle had previously explored a summer move before shifting attention to other targets.

Aghehowa’s dazzling performances have earned him individual accolades, including Primeira Liga Player of the Month and Forward of the Month awards.

With his €100 million release clause firmly in place, the young striker is expected to be one of the most sought-after names in the upcoming transfer market. However, while Porto remain adamant about receiving the full fee, financial pressures could eventually force them to reconsider their stance.
