Arsenal making progress in contract talks with key player

Premier League leaders Arsenal host Brighton and Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points, and the Spaniard will be keen to see his side continue their impressive run of form against the Seagulls.

Victory against Brighton on Wednesday will move the Gunners into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, and move them a step closer to their first piece of silverware this term.

Away from the action, it appears that Arsenal could soon be handed a huge boost.

As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are making good progress in talks over a new contract for Bukayo Saka, with an agreement expected to be reached soon.

Romano claims that the North London outfit have been in discussions with the Englishman’s representatives since prior to this summer’s transfer window.

Saka’s current contracts with Arsenal is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 season, but it is claimed that the club are working to agree a new deal.

While the salary is still being discussed, Romano claims that both the club and the player’s representatives are largely in alignment in regard to expectations and that an agreement will likely be reached.

Saka, 24, has scored 73 goals and provided 71 assists in 273 games for the Gunners across all competitions, having graduated from the club’s youth system.

The England international has suffered with injuries over the past 12 months, including a hamstring problem that ruled him out for several weeks last term.

So far this season the winger has scored three goals in ten appearances for Arteta’s side, including two in seven Premier League games for the top flight leaders.
