Arsenal vs Brighton: Preview, Prediction&Lineups

**Arsenal turn their attention to the Carabao Cup as they host Brighton in the fourth round on Wednesday evening.**

The Gunners went four points clear at the top of the Premier League with [a 1-0 victory](https://paininthearsenal.com/arsenal-1-0-crystal-palace-player-ratings-as-eze-wins-it-against-former-side) over Crystal Palace last time out. Eberechi Eze grabbed the only goal against his former side, volleying in an improvised strike toward the end of the first half.

Brighton suffered defeat in their latest outing, losing 4-2 at Manchester United despite a late fight back. Danny Welbeck and Charalampos Kostoulas reduced a three-goal deficit to one in the final 15 minutes, but Bryan Mbeumo struck deep in stoppage time to seal the win for the Red Devils.

With this being a chance to win silverware for both sides, it'll be interesting to see how they approach this matchup. Arsenal will want to keep every hope of winning a trophy alive while the Seagulls should be looking to go on a strong cup run.

### Arsenal team news

Mikel Arteta had [a number of concerns on the fitness front](https://paininthearsenal.com/mikel-arteta-issues-worrying-injury-updates-for-four-key-arsenal-players) following his side's win over Palace and he has been able to provide an update ahead of this clash.

William Saliba is expected to be absent, meaning Cristhian Mosquera will likely come into replace him in the right centre back position. Gabriel Martinelli is also not likely to be available so Leandro Trossard will continue on the left wing.

Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori and Bukayo Saka are all set to be okay to be involved against Brighton, but it remains to be seen if they will appear in the clash.

Piero Hincapié could finally be given his full debut for Arsenal while Mikel Merino may replace Viktor Gyökeres to offer the Swede some respite. Ethan Nwaneri is a non-negotiable starter for the Gunners as he is in dire need of minutes this season.

_**Predicted Arsenal lineup vs Brighton:**_ _Arrizabalaga; White, Mosquera, Hincapie, Lewis-Skelly; Nwaneri, Norgaard, Eze; Saka, Merino, Trossard_

### Brighton team news

Kaoru Mitoma, Joel Veltman and Brajan Gruda all missed Brighton's trip to United due to their respective fitness issues and they are not expected to be involved against Arsenal either.

Jack Hinshelwood, Solly March and Adam Webster remain long-term absentees while James Milner will be unavailable after suffering a muscle issue at Old Trafford.

Diego Gómez will likely come into the side having previously been a hero for the Seagulls in this competition, scoring four goals away against Barnsley in the earlier stages. Other than that, it should be a case of same old for Brighton.

_**Predicted Brighton lineup vs Arsenal:**_ _Steele; Wieffer, Dunk, Boscagli, De Cuyper; Baleba, Ayari; Gomez, Rutter, Minteh; Welbeck_

### Arsenal vs Brighton score prediction

Arsenal don't have the greatest record against Brighton, often slipping up to draw or lose over recent years. They even lost the last time they met the Seagulls in the Carabao Cup, falling to a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

However, the Gunners should be confident they can nick the win in this one. Even with a rotated side, they are still the stonger team and the brilliant squad depth they now possess means they should be able to challenge for every trophy possible this season.

Brighton won't go down without a fight, but this should be a straightforward task for Arsenal and they should comfortably secure their spot in the next round.

### Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Brighton
