Gyokeres slowly finding his feet at Arsenal

Viktor Gyokeres has been decent since arriving at Arsenal, but his early run in North London has been a mix of effort.

A slow start for Gyokeres at Arsenal

**Arsenal**’s flying start to the season hasn’t fully rubbed off on their new number nine. Viktor Gyokeres began with a bang, scoring three goals in his first four games. But, the goals have since gone missing. Six games without scoring have raised eyebrows, but Mikel Arteta remains patient.

The manager even mentioned giving Gyokeres a hug after the win over West Ham. He praised his shift rather than his stats. Truth is, injuries to Kai Havertz have forced Arteta to overuse the Swede more than planned.

Although, Gyokeres has not played a full pre-season. He still appears to be a player adjusting to the pace of Arsenal. He presses sharply, holds the ball up strongly, but has lacked a finish in recent weeks.

What this really means is that Gyokeres is still adjusting to the Gunners’ tactical flow. Arsenal’s shift toward a more direct approach aims to feed his runs behind defenders. The supply line is there, he’s had 23 chances so far. But, only seven of his shots have been on target. Those numbers show effort, but also a player still syncing with his creative teammates.

Viktor Gyokeres is a victim of his own success; not because he’s underperforming but mainly because of the emotional nature of our fanbase. The signs are promising

While Gyokeres can’t help lose that goal scoring trend, here again his impact cannot be measured by goals alone. His movement has opened space for his teammates and his presence does occupy defenders. Arteta recently called his performance “exceptional” against Olympiacos, highlighting the work-rate that goes unnoticed.

Arsenal signed him for £64m to make big impact, not just another body up front. Though he hasn’t hit top gear yet, there are signs he’s getting there. Once the chemistry clicks, those near-misses could turn into regular goals.

Author’s Opinion:

Gyokeres hasn’t set the league on fire yet, but his graft and attitude deserve credit. Once his confidence catches up with his effort, Arsenal could have the complete striker they’ve been missing.
