And it could come against Arsenal’s set-piece specialists.
The former Hellas Verona centre-back has started at Oxford and Barnsley in previous rounds of the Carabao Cup.
He also headed home a set-piece routine against Stoke City in pre-season.
Coppola is expected to start the fourth-round tie against Arsenal.
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler said: “Diego Coppola is doing really well and I think he's really good at set-pieces, he's a great header.
“He's a typical Italian defender and we are quite happy how he's doing here.
“He understands his role. He's a very hard trainer.
“He knows that his chance will come and, when his chance will come, he's ready, I'm sure.
“So maybe this chance is already and then we are quite confident that we see a really good, really good Diego Coppola.”
Hurzeler could face his biggest decision up front.
Danny Welbeck has scored five goals in his last four games and was on target against his old club when Albion won a Carabao Cup tie at the Emirates three years ago.
He looks a perfect man to lead the attack with young talent buzzing around him and is in great shape physically.
But Hurzeler would still have to think carefully before naming him in the XI three days from an important Premier League clash with Leeds.
One factor in Georginio Rutter's favour could be the help he can give in heading away corners.
Possible Albion XI: Steele; Wieffer, Coppola, Boscagli, De Cuyper; Baleba, Ayari; Gomez, Kostoulas, Watson; Tzimas/Welbeck.
