Arsenal loanee made a statement at Brentford by scoring and assisting in his first start.
A great first start for Arsenal loanee
Reiss Nelson at last revealed his new performance full of confidence and flair in Brentford colors. The left footed player of Arsenal was sick for the most part of September. He was very much eager to show his talent.
For their League Cup match, Brentford matched up with Grimsby Town, a club that had already made the biggest shock of the tournament by getting rid of Man Utd, to which Nelson totally grabbed the opportunity. He scored and made an assist as well in the decisive win for Brentford. His quick movement and connecting play showed the quality Arsenal have always seen in him.
It was a night that could quite possibly reignite his season. He brought back the memory of his pure attacking instincts to everyone else.
From the sidelines to the spotlight
Nelson’s performance was a turning point during his loan period when he had been struggling to get chances. He could not make it to the squad against the top PL teams because he was ill. Thus, he was watching the game from the side while Brentford was having problems with attacking consistency. His presence in the last round was very little but he scored in the penalty shootout which a good sign.
The player again proved why he was the one to get more playing time when he was given the chance to be in the first eleven this time. The goal was the perfect match for the game. And the assist was a hint of his increasing self-confidence and the better communication with his new teammates.
Author’s opinion:
Nelson’s performance was a clear declaration of his intentions. Should he continue with this drive, his temporary transfer might just shape his return to Arsenal’s strategies.
