While featuring on the right, the 15-year-old caused plenty of problems for the Brighton defence.

Max Dowman’s physical streak for Arsenal
One of the main challenges facing Dowman is how well he can adjust to the physical demands of the senior game.
That’s something which can take time, but there are signs that the Arsenal youngster is willing to stand up for himself.
Not only were there moments where he dealt with defenders well, but there was a nasty streak on display in one moment.
After being fouled by Olivier Boscagli, Dowman hit back with a shove in the back from a duel in the air, giving away a free-kick.
While it’s a small moment, it shows that the academy star isn’t afraid of stepping up to those many years his senior.
Max Dowman’s ability to trouble defenders
In a first half that was far from inspiring, Dowman stood out as one of the most important creative players for Arsenal.
The youngster consistently troubled the Brighton defence, keeping them guessing as to whether he would beat them on the inside or outside of the flank.
There were times when Dowman was able to drop his shoulder and drift into central areas, finding ways of wriggling free from the opposition.
While work still needs to be done on the end product and decision-making, it is still early days, and his raw ability on display is promising.

Defensive desire from Max Dowman
As has become clear in recent seasons, it isn’t enough to just be good in possession for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Players have to contribute defensively, something which can take some time to adjust to.
However, it seems clear that Dowman is willing to put in a shift when it comes to the defensive side of the game.
That was on display just before half-time, as the youngster ran back to stop a counter-attack by slotting into midfield.
It wasn’t the only instance of Dowman getting involved with work out of possession, in a move that will have certainly impressed Arteta.
