Paul Scholes compares Jack Wilshere to Real Madrid legends
Speaking on The Overlap, the former Manchester United midfielder was discussing how England’s midfield lacks a controlling player when he made the comparison between Wilshere, Kroos and Modric.
He said: “I don’t think we have that type of controlling midfield player, one that can do a bit of everything. “We haven’t got a Toni Kroos or a Modric. Yeah. From them days.”
“I just don’t think we have. I think probably a while ago, Jack Wilshere was probably the closest to being that type.”
Wilshere had a promising start to life at Arsenal, but injuries greatly impacted his career.
The 33-year-old made 197 appearances for the North London outfit before leaving on a free transfer to West Ham United in 2018.

How Jack Wilshere is faring as a manager
After departing West Ham in 2020, the ex-England international went on to play for Bournemouth and Aarhus GF.
However, persistent injury woes during his time on the pitch saw Wilshere announce his retirement in 2022.
He has now turned to management, kicking off his stint in the dugout with a brief spell as Norwich City’s caretaker.
After he wasn’t offered the permanent position at Carrow Road, the former Arsenal man decided to join Luton Town.
The Hatters have dropped down to League One this season, with Wilshere so far taking charge of three matches – winning two and losing one.
