Former Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has brought his short-lived spell with Mexican side Pumas UNAM to an abrupt end, mutually terminating his contract just three months after signing a deal that was meant to run until 2026.
The 34-year-old has now become a free agent, with sources close to the player indicating that he has no plans to retire and remains open to fresh opportunities elsewhere.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the decision follows a difficult period for Ramsey in Mexico. The midfielder managed just six appearances and 235 minutes of football, scoring once and providing no assists, as a series of recurring injury problems limited his involvement.

A muscle strain suffered in September’s 4-1 defeat to Club America aggravated a long-term issue that had troubled him since his days at Cardiff City. ESPN further reported that Ramsey had appeared “completely distracted,” missing rehabilitation sessions and even withdrawing from a Wales national team call-up.

Off the pitch, Aaron Ramsey has also endured personal heartbreak. Earlier this month, his beloved dog, Halo, went missing, a loss that visibly affected him. In an emotional social media post, the Welshman wrote, “What I’d do to hold you one last time, Halo,” while offering a $10,000 reward for information about her disappearance.

The distressing episode is understood to have compounded his struggles in Mexico, withAS Mexico reporting that Pumas, currently sitting 13th in the Apertura standings with 15 points, plan to withhold an official statement until the season concludes, out of respect for the player.

Ramsey’s move to Pumas in June was seen as a bold attempt to reignite his career following a nomadic few years that included stints at Juventus, Rangers, Nice, and a return to Cardiff City. However, the experience has been described by one source close to the player as “a nightmare three months,” citing a combination of physical setbacks and emotional strain.
Now back in the UK with his family, Ramsey’s future remains uncertain but his illustrious resume could attract interest from European clubs seeking experience and leadership in midfield.
Once a fan favourite at Arsenal, where he played a pivotal role in their FA Cup triumphs and helped guide Wales to the Euro 2016 semi-finals, Ramsey’s next move could yet bring him full circle, possibly even back to the Premier League.
