Arsenal signed Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for €65m in July.
Earlier this month, the Spain international explained he was determined to join Arsenal despite having other options last summer.
The decision to join Arsenal has clearly paid off for the midfielder as he’s a key part of Mikel Arteta’s squad. Zubimendi has already played over 1,000 minutes from 12 matches for the north London club.
[Mundo Deportivo](http://mundodeportivo.com) have a report on the ‘great controversy’ generated from the 26-year-old’s transfer from La Real to Arsenal.
The La Liga club signed him for their academy from another Spanish side, Antiguoko, in 2011. They had initially sent him back on loan for two years to their academy.
Zubimendi climbed through the ranks and made his first team debut for Real Sociedad in 2019. He spent six years with them before joining Arsenal.
Mundo now report Antiguoko are claiming €1m from his transfer to the Emirates. They have also relayed comments from their technical director, Roberto Montiel, who didn’t hold back about feelings clear towards Real Sociedad.
_“Real Sociedad received the transfer fee for Martín Zubimendi from Arsenal and has not paid us the five percent that we are entitled to according to the agreement. They will maintain their position of not paying us. That money is very important to us because we invest it in our academy,”_ he said.
Montiel claims that as per the agreement, his side would _“receive up to €1m.”_
_“They are obsessed with crushing us at every level; they want us to become increasingly inferior,”_ the technical director concluded.
