Barcelona interested in Arsenal midfielder

Premier League leaders Arsenal travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit four points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and the Spaniard will expect to see his side continue their strong run of form when they visit the Clarets.

The Gunners will once again be without captain Martin Odegaard for their trip to Burnley, with the Norwegian currently sidelined due to a knee issue.

Off the pitch, however, it has emerged that the midfielder is attracting attention from one of Europe’s biggest clubs ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

According to El Nacional via Fichajes, La Liga champions Barcelona have identified Arsenal midfielder Odegaard as a transfer target.

The 26-year-old initially joined Arsenal on loan from Spanish giants Real Madrid in January 2021, before making the move permanent that summer.

He has now played more than 200 times for the North London club across all competitions, although he has struggled with injuries this term.

The report claims that Barcelona are hoping to add an attacking midfielder to Hansi Flick’s squad next summer, and Odegaard has appeared on their radar of potential targets.

Despite Barcelona’s interest, the report claims that Arsenal are understandably keen to keep hold of the midfielder and will therefore only entertain significant offers for the player.

Odegaard’s current contract with the Premier League leaders is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 season, which puts the Gunners in a commanding position.

Currently, Flick has Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez as options in attacking midfield, but the report claims that those in charge of the club are keen to bolster his options in that particular are of the pitch.
