Mikel Arteta shares worrying Viktor Gyokeres injury update after Arsenal win v Burnley

Mikel Arteta has shared an injury update on Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres after he was forced off at half-time during the win over Burnley.

The Gunners made it five Premier League wins in a row thanks to first-half goals from Gyokeres and Declan Rice, as the team kept a seventh consecutive clean sheet in all competitions, matching a club record from 1987.

But the north London side were dealt a blow when the Swede didn't emerge from the dressing room for the second half, with Spaniard Mikel Merino replacing him at the break.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Arteta revealed that the summer signing felt a muscular problem and the club needed to assess it, so they chose not to take the risk.

"The first half was one of the best he's played with us. Gyokeres was feeling a little niggle, muscular, so we have to wait."

Arsenal have been in sensational form this season, conceding just once from open play in their ten Premier League games this season, and the victory over Scott Parker's side temporarily extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

After joining from Sporting CP in the summer after a drawn-out saga, Gyokeres had a difficult run of form initially, but has now come into his own and his goal at Turf Moor was his third in three games for the club.

He has now scored six times in 14 appearances for the club, but a muscular injury could see him sidelined for the upcoming games against Slavia Prague and Sunderland next week, before a two week international break.

Arsenal will be hopeful that it's nothing serious though, with a north London derby against Tottenham to come immediately after that.

Arteta already has limited attacking options to choose from with Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli all injured, while Noni Madueke is also unavailable currently, although GIVEMESPORT sources understand he is ahead of schedule and due to return to first-team training soon.
