Arsenal extend lead, Liverpool return to form as Wolves sink deeper

LONDON - Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a commanding 2–0 win over Burnley, while Liverpool snapped a four-match losing streak by defeating Aston Villa 2–0 at Anfield. Mikel Arteta’s men, now seven points clear with 25 points from 10 matches, continued their flawless defensive record, seven games without conceding, as Viktor Gyökeres and Declan Rice scored first-half goals to seal a comfortable away win. Gyökeres opened the scoring in the 14th minute, converting from close range after a set-piece routine, before Rice doubled the lead with a powerful header from Leandro Trossard’s cross in the 35th. Arsenal’s balance and composure again underscored their title credentials.

At Anfield, Mohamed Salah became only the third player in Liverpool history to reach 250 goals, capitalizing on a goalkeeper error in first-half stoppage time. Ryan Gravenberch added the second midway through the second half with a deflected strike, helping Arne Slot’s side climb to third place, seven points behind Arsenal. Aston Villa slipped to 11th with 15 points.

At the other end of the table, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ misery deepened as they slumped to a 3–0 defeat against Fulham. First-half goals from Ryan Sessegnon and Harry Wilson, followed by an own goal from Yerson Mosquera, condemned Wolves to another heavy loss. Emmanuel Agbadou’s red card left them with ten men, compounding their troubles. With just two points from ten matches, Wolves are eight points adrift of safety.

Meanwhile, Manchester United were held to a 2–2 draw by Nottingham Forest. Casemiro’s header gave United the lead, but two quick goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona turned the tide for Forest. Amad Diallo salvaged a point for United with a stunning late volley, keeping Erik ten Hag’s side in fifth place.

Elsewhere, Chelsea edged Tottenham 1–0 through Joao Pedro’s 34th-minute strike, moving up to fifth on goal difference. Crystal Palace defeated Brentford 2–0 with Jean-Philippe Mateta netting his fourth goal in two home games, while Brighton & Hove Albion cruised past Leeds United 3–0, courtesy of Danny Welbeck’s opener and a brace from Diego Gomez.
