Major Viktor Gyokeres injury update as Arsenal train before Sparta Prague clash

Arsenal have a Champions League clash against Slavia Prague to contend with after their strong run of form in all competitions – but they’ll be without Viktor Gyokeres on their trip to Czechia after he failed to make the training group.

Arsenal beat Burnley 2-0 on Saturday afternoon to record their fifth straight Premier League win and a fourth game without conceding in the top-flight – adding to their run of three wins from three in the Champions League without anything getting past their defence.

It was Viktor Gyokeres who opened the scoring against Burnley at Turf Moor, though despite playing a key role in the first half, he was substituted at half-time in place of Mikel Merino.

And it appears the Swedish star won’t play any part in their Champions League clash against Slavia Prague on Tuesday, with Mikel Arteta opting to ease him back in to avoid further risk.

Viktor Gyokeres absent from training ahead of Slavia Prague vs Arsenal

Gyokeres joined Arsenal in the summer from Sporting after some incredible scoring form, and despite Gyokeres being somewhat criticised for his performances, he’s still got six goals in 14 games for Mikel Arteta’s side.

However, they’ll have to win without him on their travels to Czechia.

A post on X (formerly Twitter) by journalist Charles Watts, who was present at the club’s Hale End training ground, stated that Gyokeres wasn’t at training today alongside backup goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

So, no Gyokeres at training today, or Kepa. Zubimendi is involved, but is obviously suspended tomorrow night.

Martin Zubimendi is in training after he was also withdrawn vs Burnley but he won’t play any part due to suspension, whilst Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli won’t play any part due to their long-term absences.

Arsenal can remain joint-top of the league phase table if they manage to win, though they are behind Paris Sain-Germain, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan on goal difference after their perfect starts.

Gyokeres scored twice against Atletico Madrid last time out to record a 4-0 win and he will be a miss.

It means Mikel Merino will likely be preferred up front, thanks to injuries to the Swedish star as well as Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
